IIDA’s Texas Oklahoma Chapter presented Kirksey Architecture with the Pinnacle Award in the Large firm category at the TOP Design Excellence Awards & Inspire Gala on Friday, November 10th.
The Pinnacle Award represents the highest honor that the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter can bestow upon a design firm and is granted only to firms that have consistently contributed to the highest aspirations of the profession.
Kirksey was nominated for this honor by IIDA Houston City Center and recognized for its local contributions to the community alongside its commitment to prioritizing innovation and sustainability to deliver the most efficient and high-performing buildings for its clients.
“While it is rewarding to be acknowledged for our commitment to delivering high-quality and sustainable design, it is humbling to be recognized for our contributions to the community,” said Brian Malarkey, Executive Vice President, Director of Interior Architecture. “Community has always been a part of Kirksey’s core values as we believe this adds spirit and purpose to our design projects. It’s a blessing to play a small part in the betterment of the built environment for others.”
Over the past five years, Kirksey has invested more than $1.15 million to local community and industry organizations that directly shape the built environment including Trees for Houston, the Houston Food Bank, Museum of Fine Arts, Galveston Bay Foundation, The Children’s Fund, Kelsey Research Foundation, and more. Kirksey also remains dedicated to offering in-kind services for pro-bono projects including Halo House, Good Shepherd Campus, Spark Parks, Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association Field House & Improvements, and the Society for the Performing Arts to name a few.
In addition to receiving the Pinnacle Award, Kirksey was also awarded Best in City Center – Houston in the Sustainability category for the firm’s work on the San Jacinto College Anderson-Ball Classroom Building. Today, the 122,000-square-foot mass timber structure remains one of the nation’s largest mass timber academic buildings offering 55 instructional classrooms, a robotics lab, and a lecture hall with various academic support spaces for faculty.
This year, the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter received more than 115 entries from design firms across the region. To preview the full list of winners from the 2023 IIDA Top Design Excellence Awards, click here.
